FAQs

Anyone compared this to raw organic whey? thoughts?

Hi Cassidy, thank you for your question. Our Classic whey is just organic whey protein while our regular version has organic sunflower lecithin added so it mixes easily in liquids. We recommend Classic if you will be using a blender. NorCal Organic started in 2011 and has worked with the same farms since the beginning. Raw Organic Whey is a newer company and received a large number of very positive reviews very quickly from single review amazon members. Raw Organic Whey also has changed its website over time so as not to mislead people that their product is raw, this was not always the case and their name is a bit confusing in this regard.

Does this product have similar effects to immunocal?

Hi Juliana, thank you for your email. Our whey naturally contains 150mg of glutathione per serving. I can't speak on Immunocal. Thank you!

How much lactose per serving?

Hello Charles, there is approximately 1g of lactose per 25g serving. Thank you!

Can you bake with this whey?

Hello L. Carnahan, thank you for your question. We have a number of customers that bake with NorCal Organic. The NorCal Classic is better for baking. Please see our website for recipe ideas. Thank you! Please note if the whey is exposed directly to high heat it could become denatured. In most baking application this is not a concern.

How do I order a 2lb bag?

Thank you for your email. We are currently in the process of production and will be re-stocking as soon as possible. We apologize for the delay as our production is working to keep up with the number of orders we have received. We are increasing our packaging capabilities to avoid future shortages in inventory. Thank you.

Nutrition label says 36 servings, product description says 13 servings. The label must be incorrect, because 12 oz = 340g. 25g / serving = 13 servs!

There are 36 servings in our 2lb bag.

What is the expiration date?

Hello Bianka, the expiration date is two years from the date of manufacture. On the back of the package there will be a stamp or label with a best by date.

What is the Omega 3 and Omega 6 value?

Omega 3 = 0.013 g/serving
Omega 3 = 0.029 g/serving
The best Omega 3/Omega 6 ratio for a whey protein that we are aware of
Thank you

How much cholesterol in the product?

Konstantinos, thank you for your question. There are 40mg of cholesterol in each serving of NorCal Organic Whey. Please email info@norcalorganic.com if we may be of additional assistance.

Cholesterol says 40mg isn't that a lot per serving ? I don't want to worry about having High Cholesterol by taking this product.

40mg is on par with most other protein brands, and some organic whey proteins have cholesterol as high as 50-60mg per serving. When you see protein brands with lower cholesterol numbers it is usually because they contain isolates and/or have been over processed. Thanks for the question.

How can you call this raw if it has been pasteurized?

Hi Sharon! Actually there are no whey proteins on the market that are actually "raw." When dairy products are sold across state lines, they must be pasteurized under FDA regulations. So if you see any whey protein marketing itself as "raw" it actually isn't. NorCal is proud to be transparent about our methods, our cows, and our farms. Thanks for the question.

I know that whey is the protein and lactose is the sugar, just want to make sure this product is lactose free as my husband cannot tolerate.

Hello Tami! There are 1.07 grams of lactose in each 25 gram serving of NorCal Organic Whey. This is very similar to the lactose content in hard cheeses, if that is any guide. Thanks for the question.

Which is better and why, NorCal Organic or Raw Organic Whey? I am confused which to choose

Hi there! We're obviously partial, but NorCal is Non-GMO Project Verified and American Humane Association certified while Raw is not. We also tell you where we get our whey (Northern California farms) while they are very vague. Finally, they're really not "raw," that's just a marketing tactic.

Can I take NorCal Organic Whey if I am pregnant?

NorCal Organic Whey is pasteurized and is considered safe for use by pregnant women. We recommend you speak with your pediatrician before taking any supplements.

  • is soy-free; and
  • we were founded by a registered dietitian and passionate supporter of local and organic agriculture.

What is the difference between whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate?

January 01 2014
NorCal Organic Whey is a whey protein concentrate because the extra heat and processing required to create an isolate would denature the protein and cause the loss of valuable co-factors and omega-3 fatty acids naturally present in NorCal Organic Whey. There is no organic whey protein isolate available on the market.
