NorCal comes from family farmers who believe in the welfare and humane treatment of their animals. Located in Humboldt and Del Norte counties in Northern California, our farmers' cows are a heritage breed called Jersey cows. These cows graze year-round on fresh pasture of clover, rye, and other native grasses.
When converting liquid whey to a powdered form, we use industry leading techniques of cold-processed microfiltration and small batch drying to ensure the most nutrient dense protein.
Unlike many of the mass-market proteins out there, NorCal Organic Whey is never acid or bleach processed. Acid and bleach processing strips away many of the most important nutritional factors in whey protein, and many companies have to add these back with amino acids that are created in a lab. Since NorCal is treated as gently as possible, we have no need to add back the naturally occurring factors.
Family Owned and Operated Since 1921
We work with Rumiano Cheese Company is the oldest family-owned cheese company in California. With over four generations of family involvement, the Rumiano family knows dairy.
The unique coastal climate of Northern California provide abundance of lush wild grasses and nearly year long climate for the cows. On average they graze on pasture over 300 days a year, among the highest number of days on pasture of any region in world.
During the winter months the cows are given localy harvested grasses and an organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, blend of barley, alfalfa, corn and minerals. Rumiano Cheese was the first to be Non-GMO Project Verified, and are continuously improving their methods and those of their dairy farm partners.
Dear NorCal Organic Customer,
We have always been a company focused on providing the highest quality products to our customers. This includes our packaging. Recently we started using a new type of bag with the goal of reducing the amount of plastic we use. This was based on our company's environmental goals as well as many customer requests.
The new bags have an inner bag that protects the ingredients inside from air and moisture. The second layer of the bag, instead of using a plastic, we chose to use a paper based layer made from wood pulp. This reduced the plastic in our bags by 60%. Unfortunately, we have heard from a number of customers that this new bag is not durable enough and they have received bags that were damaged in shipping.
First, we apologize if you have been one of the customers that has received a damaged bag. Second, we are working as quickly as we can to bring back our previous bag packaging that provided the durability needed for our product to survive what can be a rough shipping experience.
Please reach out to us if you have received a damaged bag so we can take care of this.
Thank you for your understanding and patience, we will work as quickly as we can to correct this.
Thank you for your support.
