Know Your Whey
Only the Best Ingredients
Where your food comes from is important, and what goes into making the purest whey protein available is just as important as what does not. Source Organic Whey Protein starts with the finest raw ingredients and does as little to them as possible.
Small Family Farms
Source comes from family farmers who believe in the welfare and humane treatment of their animals. Located in Humboldt and Del Norte counties in Northern California, our farmers' cows are a heritage breed called Jersey cows. These cows graze year-round on fresh pasture of clover, rye, and other native grasses.
Small Batch, Cold-Temperature Processing
When converting liquid whey to a powdered form, we use industry leading techniques of cold-processed microfiltration and small batch drying to ensure the most nutrient dense protein.
Non-Denatured, Biologically Active Protein
The milk produced by our cows is naturally high in conjugated linoleic acid (CLA's), lactoferrin and immunoglobulins. Our USDA Organic Certification is our guarantee to you that our cows have never been given hormones, antibiotics, steroids, or genetically modified feed (GMO).
Why Source Organic Whey
Non-GMO Project Verified
Source Organic Whey is the only whey protein that is Non-GMO Project Verified. The Non-GMO Project has the strictest standards of any third-party certifier. They begin their examinaton with how the grass the cows eat is grown and don’t stop until the whey is ready for packaging. This ensures that only the most natural processes are used when making Source.
American Humane Association Certified
Proud to be the only whey protein to be American Humane Association certified. The small farms that Source comes from treat their cows the way should be treated. You can rest assured that Source comes from happy cows, and we have pictures and a great tasting whey protein to prove it.
Grass Fed and Pasture Raised in California
Source Organic Whey’s cows graze year-round on fresh pasture of clover, rye, and other native grasses. Due to the climate in Northern California, our cows are out in the pasture for over 300 days a year. Compare this to farms in the Midwest, where the cows are lucky to spend 180 days outside. We find that active cows are happier, and happier cows make better milk.
Not Acid or Bleach Processed
Unlike many of the mass-market proteins out there, Source Organic Whey is never acid or bleach processed. Acid and bleach processing strips away many of the most important nutritional factors in whey protein, and many companies have to add these back with amino acids that are created in a lab. Since Source is treated as gently as possible, we have no need to add back the naturally occurring factors.
Soy-Free and Gluten-Free
Source Organic never uses any soy or soy lecithin in any of its products. Additionally, Source has been third-party tested to be gluten free.
Rumiano Cheese Company
Family Owned and Operated Since 1921
Rumiano Cheese Company is the oldest family-owned cheese company in California. With over four generations of family involvement, the Rumiano family knows dairy.
Currently, Rumiano partners with dairy farms in Del Norte and Humboldt counties in Northern California. The unique coastal climate in these counties is what makes the milk here of unmatched quality throughout the year. In this region there is an abundance of lush wild grasses that grow nearly year around. On average the cows graze on pasture over 300 days a year, among the highest number of days on pasture of any region in world.
During the winter months grass growth by nature is slowed as temperatures drop. To make up for the lower volume of grass, the cows are given local grasses harvested and stored from the same fields the cows graze on during the summer months. When harvested grasses are not enough to meet the cows increased nutritional and energy needs during winter months they are given an organic Non-GMO Project Verified blend of barley, alfalfa, corn and minerals.
Rumiano Cheese was the first to be Non-GMO Project Verified, and are continuously improving their methods and those of their dairy farm partners.
